When it comes to building backlinks for your website there are good practices and of course bad practices that can affect your site massively. The Google algorithm is constantly changing but there are ways to build backlinks in 2018 that you will not get you penalised in the future. Going to basics first, you may be asking what a backlink is?
What Is A Backlink?
A backlink is a link on another website linking to your website. Having quality backlinks from other websites is one of the most important aspects of SEO. If your looking to get to the first page of google then your going to need plenty of strong backlinks to help you achieve the best position in Google.
Before building a strong backlink profile your website must be full of content with strong internal linking and a great navigation.
Best ways to build backlinks in 2018
- Guest posting is a great way to earn backlinks from websites in your niche. A guest post is basically an article that you write and ask if you can post it on another websites blog. Guest posting is a great way to add a relevant link to your website. When your looking for websites that allow guest posting I’d always advise finding blogs that have similar interests, products or services that are like yours. When you create your guest post, the article needs to be unique, have at least 500 words and must be quality content. Be careful when finding websites that offer guest posting though as if they are full of poor quality posts then the link you get could cause more damage than good.
- Create interesting content! Now this has been one of the best and most natural forms of link building for years. People love to read interesting content, watch videos & look at infographics. The internet is full to the brim with content and if yours is the same as everyone else’s then it’s not going to be of much interest. How many times have you shared a post or video on Facebook? You probably share things everyday on social media channels. It’s the same principle when it comes to websites. Create blog posts that will engage your visitors and you will soon get other website owners linking to your content. Finding out statistics and putting them in your pages & posts is a great way for other websites to quote them and most of the time they will credit you by linking to your site.
- Broken Links are a great way to get backlinks from websites that are offering relevant references to websites. Websites come & go, and webmasters can’t always keep on top of websites they are linking to. If you find a website with a link linking to a website that no longer exists, contact them and ask if they can change it to link to your website. Obviously if your going to get a backlink this way, you want to make sure that the old website it was linking to offer the same services or products you do.
- Find your competitors backlinks. Generally, when websites are linking to your competitors, they will most probably link to your website as well. Simply email the website owner asking if they can feature your link on one of they’re posts or pages. There’s no harm in asking and most of the time they will happily give you a link without question. If your going by this approach you really want your website up to date and full of content that’s worthy of a link. Creating lots of new unique content makes building links much easier.
Building backlinks is the best way to quickly work your way up Google but there are a few things you need to make sure before you start. Your website should be full of quality unique content that’s interesting for your readers. Obviously your on-page SEO should be up to key otherwise Google will not help you out until you sort out the basics. Don’t be shy and contact websites to see if they will let you guest post, add a link or point one of they’re old dead links to your website.
